Project Description

Flaviana commenced her studies at The School of St Jude’s Sisia Primary Campus in January 2019.

Flaviana and her family live in Sombetini.  Sombetini is a diverse residential area outside of Arusha city in Tanzania.  Flaviana’s family belongs to the Luo tribe.  The Luo (also called Jaluo and Joluo) are an ethnic group found in Kenya, eastern Uganda, and northern Tanzania.  The Luo traditionally make their living from fishing, farming and pastoral herding however currently the most internationally notable Luo is the former US President Barack Obama!

Flaviana’s family rent their three-room, cement block home. Her family live in a compound with other families.  Like many other Tanzanian dwellings, their home has no internal plumbing. Buckets of water are collected from a nearby tap for a small per-bucket fee.
